Using Digital Technologies for Authentic Assessment
Participation Information Sheet
Thank you for showing an interest in this project. Please read this information sheet below before deciding whether or not to participate. If you decide to participate, we thank you. If you decide not to take part, there will be no disadvantage to you and we thank you for considering our request.
What is the Aim of the Project?
This questionnaire is part of a doctoral study that looks into how educators in tertiary education use digital technologies for authentic assessment. We are interested in their understanding of authentic assessment and how they use digital technologies for this assessment.
What Type of Participants Are Being Sought?
If you are an educator who (1) teaches at the tertiary education level, (2) considers some of the assessments you designed and/or implemented as authentic assessment, (3) uses digital technologies, broadly defined, in these assessments, we'd like to hear from you.
- We are aware that the term authentic assessment may mean different things to different people, and we are interested in your perspective.
- Part of the questionnaire explores your use of digital technologies for authentic assessment. Here, digital technologies are broadly defined as we are interested in what digital tools, resources and systems you use and why you choose to use them in the assessment.
What will Participants be Asked to Do?
We seek your permission to participate in an anonymous online questionnaire, which takes around 15 minutes to complete. Upon indication of your consent in the consent form below, you will be directed to the questionnaire. We will ask you to draw on the authentic assessment(s) you have designed and/or implemented to share with us your understanding of authentic assessment and your use of digital technologies for the assessment(s).
Participants' Rights
- Anonymity: the questionnaire is anonymous, and you will not be identifiable in any research output.
- Voluntary participation: participation in the questionnaire is entirely voluntary.
- Right to withdraw: you can choose to withdraw your participation during the questionnaire, without any disadvantage to yourself of any kind.
- Risks of participation: there is no foreseeable risk associated with your participation. However, if you feel hesitant or uncomfortable, you have the right to decline to answer any particular survey item(s). You can also discuss any concerns relating to this project with us, the researchers, or the University Human Ethics Committee.
- Access to results: you may request to access the overall result of the survey using an email address that does not identify you.
Incentives to participation
- As a token of appreciation, participants will have a chance to win one of 30 vouchers, each worth NZD 50, in a prize draw.
What Data or Information will be Collected and What Use will be Made of It?
The questionnaire will capture some demographic information including the nature of your teaching. You will also provide contact details (e.g. email address) if you wish to receive the overall results or enter the prize draw. The data collected will be securely stored in such a way that only the researchers mentioned below will be able to gain access to it. Data obtained as a result of the research will be retained for at least 6 years in secure storage. Any personal information held on the participants will be destroyed at the completion of the research.
